I’m a left-leaning individual living in the deep red state of Utah. The grandson of a daughter of a Utah pioneer who loves this state but hates its politics.

Am I a liberal? A socialist? A leftist? A pinko commie? The devil? The great evil? Or just someone who has a lot ot complain about? Or perhaps someone who believes in social safety nets, the ability of the government to take action on housing and healthcare affordability, and wishes people could simply live their lives uninhibited without discrimination? Am I just a Democrat?

And who are the people around me? What are their concerns? What keeps them coming back to the Republican party even if it seemingly works against them? What is it that we’re missing about each other?
